The mission of Young Dancers in Repertory is to provide professional dance training and to foster growth and communication through creative, educational dance and arts programming, and performances for children, youth, and the general public. We believe every individual has the capacity for artistic expression and is entitled to a high level of training and artistic experience regardless of age or aptitude.
Young Dancers in Repertory was founded in 1985 as a pre-professional Teenage Touring Ensemble in South Brooklyn. Husband and wife team, Craig Gabrian and Carol Mezzacappa, sought initially to provide professional training for Brooklyn’s underserved youth with career aspirations in the world of dance. In response to community demand, Young Dancers in Repertory began classes for the general public, opening its Center for Dance Studies in 1995, adding Arts-in-Education programs in 1996 and adding After School programs in 2000. Today, through year-round programming, Young Dancers in Repertoryserves nearly 4,000 children and brings the joy of dance to a total audience of nearly 10,000.
