  • After School Middle School program is at JHS 201, 8010 12th avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11228

Group Leader: provides direct services to children attending the after-school program by assisting the Program Director in implementing program activities, support instructional staff, and facilitate small and large group meetings and clubs and work with community partners to ensure a positive and developmentally appropriate experience for all program youth.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise snack time.
  • Collect daily attendance
  • Provide a positive and supportive learning environment for all students
  • Assist with activity planning and curriculum development, as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience working with school age children and have an enthusiasm for teaching
  • Must maintain a five day 2:40-5:40 schedule (Personal school schedule cannot interrupt the 5 day commitment.
  • Experience in working with varied ethnic populations
  • Must work well with others
  • English/second language preferred
  • 18 years old and minimum high school diploma
  • Must have a government Identification

Counselor: will assist the Group Leader and provide direct services to by implementing program activities, support instructional staff, facilitate small and large group meetings and clubs, and work with community partners to ensure a positive and developmentally appropriate experience for all program youth.

  • Help supervise snacks
  • Assist with activity implementation
  • Provide a positive and supportive learning environment for all students

Activity Specialist: provides direct services to children and is responsible for tutoring and implementing activities in one or more specific areas of study including STEM, Visual Art, Music, Dance and Drama to engage a group of 20 – 30 students. The Activity Specialist will make connections between activities and academics.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design curricula for projects and activities
  • Assist in the coordination and preparing of special events such as holiday showcases, family events, etc.
  • Provide a positive and supportive learning environment for all students, incorporating basic skills of leadership, team-building, and other social skills
  • Team-teach with line staff such as group leaders and counselors
  • Attend paid trainings and staff meetings
  • Supervise children during indoor/outdoor activities
  • Supervise assigned line staff within classroom

Qualifications:

  • Have a BA &/or expertise in an area of skill (art, music, dance, or drama)
  • Two years of experience working with school age children and have an enthusiasm for teaching
  • Experience in working with varied ethnic populations
  • Demonstrate ability to lead structured age appropriate activities and lessons
  • Work well collaboratively
  • English/second language preferred
  • No younger than 18 years old and can provide a copy of the college diploma
  • Must have a government Identification

Education Specialist: Responsible for the overall provision of academic supports provided to students in the Elementary and/or Middle School after school program. Educational Specialist will help to link the school day and after-school by working closely with school personnel, parents and program staff.  Sustaining a safe, inclusive environment where children flourish is an essential contribution.  Must have a NYS teaching license.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and implement curricula and lesson plans that align after school activities with school day learning.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to train after school program staff in curricula and activities.
  • Extend and reinforce school day learning by conducting literacy and educational instruction groups.
  • Communicate routinely with school day teachers to determine student assignments, upcoming tests, projects and classroom learning
  • Provide focused homework help towards building students’ understanding and interest.
  • Help students feel successful by providing explicit positive feedback and support with emphasis on gains.
  • Assess and discuss student progress, learning needs, assets and skills in ‘student reviews’.
  • Sustain ongoing communication about student progress with Program Director, school day teachers and families.

Qualifications

  • Must have a NYS teaching license and can provide copy of license
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • BA or Masters’ Degree in related Education and can provide copy of diploma
  • Two years of experience working with school age children in an educational setting
  • Experience assessing children’s academic levels and learning needs and writing curricula
  • Administrative and Supervisory Experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Skills working with varied ethnic and cultural populations
  • English/second language preferred
  • No younger than 18 years old and can provide a copy of the college diploma
  • Must have a government Identification

  • Background check with Albany (28 years of addresses including month and year at location)
  • Completion of medical form and TB test by licensed doctor
  • Able to provide an employment reference and a personal reference
  • Copy of diploma
  • Able to provide education history with number of credits completed
  • Able to provide child care experience
  • Submit to a Special Needs background check
  • Able to complete a Criminal Conviction statement
  • Complete I-9 immigration form with proper government identifications
